Race Rock Tidal Turbine
The Race Rock Tidal Turbine is a 1:5 scale axial turbine designed by Clean Current created specifically for its deployment at Race Rocks Ecological Preserve. The device features forward and backward facing blades to account for the bidirectionality of tidal currents. The device also utilizes a shroud to enhance the water velocity at each of the turbine blades. For easy recovery the device is set on top of a post which both elevates the unit to its ideal height of operation while allowing for quick connect and disconnect installation. The unit is one of a kind and the first tidal generator to be deployed in Canada. After its recovery it was sent to the Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa for display.
