RTI F2 QD
The RTI F2 QD is a design for a point absorber consisting of one or more buoyant elongated floats self-orienting toward incoming waves and movably affixed to a motion-stabilized controlled buoyancy frame. Incoming wave crests lift a barrier such that down-sloping tracks in the frame constrain the float to move in an upward and rearward motion. Under wave throughs, the motion of the float is instead downward and forward. Motion between the barrier and the frame is resisted and energy is captured by either a programmable electric or hydraulic power take off system. Capture efficiency can be improved by adjusting the float mass and buoyancy (through a buoyancy bladder), use of wave shoaling and focusing means, and adjusting the submerged depth and slope angle of the device with adjustable frame air-water ballast tanks which also allow total float submergence during severe sea states.
