FACES/About
About the FACES Program
FACES is a 10-week summer program that provides faculty an opportunity to collaborate with NREL researchers and develop scalable education modules on topics like geothermal energy, critical minerals, hydropower, cyber security, advanced manufacturing, and artificial intelligence. The first eight weeks are spent at NREL in an immersive environment with a hosting NREL staff researcher. The final two weeks are conducted virtually to prepare a final deliverable.
This program caters to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) faculty, allowing them to hone their skills in energy science. FACES works with emerging research institutions including associates, baccalaureate, masters, and R2 doctoral granting institutions. By bridging the gap between the research happening between Department of Energy (DOE) laboratories and the broader academic community, the FACES program is poised to make a lasting positive impact on STEM education and the energy landscape.
