Title XIII of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 sets forth the policy of the U.S: “to support the modernization of the nation’s electricity transmission and distribution system to maintain a reliable and secure electricity infrastructure.” The Act further stipulates initiatives for government programs to undertake in smart grid investments, including coordinated research, development, demonstration, and information outreach efforts.
The European Technology Platform for Electricity Networks of the Future, also called SmartGrids ETP, is the key European forum for the crystallisation of policy and technology research and development pathways for the smart grids sector, as well as the linking glue between EU-level related initiatives.
