Promotion of Wind Energy: Lessons Learned from International Experience and United Nations Development Programme Global Environment Facility (UNDP-GEF) Projects

Jump to: navigation, search
This report discusses the barriers to global implementation of wind power. Wind power use remains geographically concentrated, with more than 75 per cent of global installed capacity found in just five countries. These countries have implemented various supportive policies covering areas as diverse as tariffs, technical R&D, administrative procedures, or education and communication, and range from direct project subsidies to general awareness raising. This report will break down those policies and discuss how they might be implemented in other countries. The report also reviews the United Nations Development Programme Global Environment Facility's (UNDP-GEFs) 14 current wind projects in countries with good wind resources and sufficient renewable energy policy.
