Georgia /ˈdʒɔrdʒə/ is a sovereign state in the Caucasus region of Eurasia. Located on the coast of the Black Sea, it is bounded to the north and northeast by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan. A unitary, semi-presidential republic, Georgia covers a territory of 69,700 km² with a population of almost 4.5 million. During the classical era, independent kingdoms became established in what is now Georgia.
