Renewable Energy
Renewable Energy is energy obtained from sources which are practically inexhaustible.[1] Prominent examples include solar energy, wind energy, and geothermal energy. The table below lists some of the conversion technologies that are used to harness the energy from these resources[2] .
| Renewable Resource | Energy Conversion Technology |
|---|---|
| Biomass, solid fuels | Combustion (direct-fired, cofiring with coal); Gasification/Pyrolysis |
| Biomass, gas and liquid fuels | Fuel Cells |
| Geothermal | Dry steam electric; Flash electric; Binary cycle electric; Direct use; Geothermal heat pumps |
| Solar | Photovoltaics (PV); Concentrating solar thermal electric (parabolic trough, parabolic trough, power tower); Thermal water heating; Absorption chilling |
| Water, Hydro | Hydroelectric turbines; Pumped hydro storage |
| Water, Ocean | Wave energy devices; Tidal/current energy turbines; Thermal energy conversion |
| Wind | Wind turbines |
