Exploration Basis

This InSAR study was conducted for the imperial valley area to monitor and analyze surface deformation at geothermal fields and faults.

Notes

This study used data recorded over the course of seven years from the Envisat satellite. The specific technique utilized was SqueeSAR; this technique used thousands of individual scatterer locations. The technique is highly useful for vegetated and rural areas. The SqueeSAR data obtained over the course of this study showed that there was significant subsidence at all geothermal areas within Imperial Valley. The study also provided valuable information on surface displacement due to the relative movements of the North American and Pacific Plates. Production at The North Brawley Geothermal Area did not start until the end if this study so only a baseline for subsidence was established there.
