Algae

Photosynthetic, plant-like organisms containing chlorophyll. Often fast growing and able to live in freshwater, seawater, or damp oils. May be unicellular and microscopic or very large, as in the giant kelps. Can be used as a source for biofuels, and has been engineered to produce ethanol, oil and even diesel.[1][2][3][4]
