Jump to: navigation, search

The Waukesha Electric Systems Smart Grid Demonstration Project is a U.S. Department of Energy Smart Grid Demonstration Project which is based in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Overview

Demonstrate a Smart Grid-compatible Fault Current Limiting Superconducting Transformer for a utility substation, that will help improve the stability of the system. The proposed 28 megavolt amp utility transformer will occupy approximately 50% of the physical size/weight of a conventional transformer, lower power consumption through reduction of losses, and increase the reliability of the electrical grid.
