Waste Management Working Group

Waste Management Working Group

A LEDS GP Working Group

The LEDS Global Partnership (LEDS GP) and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) are pleased to announce that they are joining forces to assist countries with design and implementation of measures for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the municipal solid waste sector. CCAC has an extensive program to provide support to countries through the Municipal Solid Waste Initiative and is glad to explore opportunities to provide advisory support to countries. The LEDS GP will inform the CCAC of any interests from partnership members in technical assistance or peer learning on low emission municipal solid waste actions and coordinate future assistance and training with CCAC. Based on this new partnership, the LEDS GP will discontinue its distinct Waste Working Group. For further information on the resources and services available through the CCAC in this area, please contact Ylva Engqvist (Ylva.Engqvist.affiliate@unep.org) or Bethany Speer (Bethany.Speer@nrel.gov) for information on this LEDS GP and CCAC cooperation.

About

As lead organization of the Waste Management Sector Network (WMSN), the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) has instructed its Climate Change Unit to prepare a draft work plan that was submitted to LEDS GP for its consideration and approval in July 2012. This work plan was accepted and work is being initiated on the preparation and implementation activities. The workplan also included a proposal for provision of deeper technical support to developing countries in analyzing, selecting and implementing mitigation actions in the waste sector.
