Journal Article: The Travale Geothermal Field

The research conducted in the Travale geothermal area by the Larderello Co. up to the 1950s and by ENEL (National Electricity Agency) from 1969 led to the identification of a geothermal field and its industrial exploitation. At present the fluid produced supplies a 30 MW electric power plant and it is planned to install other plants for an additional 60 MW by 1990. This paper summarizes the results of the geological and geophysical investigations carried out in the area and those obtained in the drilling of more than 40 wells. A description is also given of the main physical and chemical characteristics of the fluids present in the reservoir. The result is a schematic conceptual model of the geothermal field.
