Conference Paper: The New Geothermal Law And Recent Geothermal Activities In Chile

Abstract
Chile has an abundance of volcanoes and associated geothermal resources, and yet, has never had a geothermal law. Last year, the President of Chile signed law 19.657 establishing the framework for the exploration and exploitation of geothermal resources. Since then, the Ministry of Mines has received more than 15 applications for geothermal exploration concessions. The Empresa Nacional del Petrbleo, the Chilean state oil company, has established itself as the leader of geothermal exploration activities in Chile, and is actively seeking exploration partners as required by the law.
