The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission regulates utility companies, authorizes permits for the construction of energy conversion, AC/DC conversion, wind energy, and electric transmission facilities, helps to resolve disputes between customers and their utilities, operates safety programs, and licenses and inspects state public grain warehouses and grain buyers. Three Public Utilities Commissioners are elected to staggered, six-year terms.
