Solar Mining Company, a Wisconsin-based company specializing in solar-thermal systems, builds and maintains solar hot-water systems on customers' facilities at no cost. After the system is activated, Solar Mining sells the solar energy to the customer at a rate lower than the rate of heating water using conventional energy sources. According to the company, this saves customers approximately 5% - 15% on the cost of heating water.

The company caps its rates; there are no rate increases during the life of the system. Metering equipment monitors daily operational conditions, such as collector and water temperatures, flow rates and energy production. This information is used as the basis for monthly energy billings and is accessible via the internet for problem solving and monthly meter readings by Solar Mining.

There is a $1,000 start-up fee associated with this program, which is available in Wisconsin on a case-by-case basis. Contact Solar Mining to determine if your facility is eligible for the Solar Utility Program.
