A series of core holes were drilled from 1984 to 1988 as a part of the Continental Scientific Drilling Program (CSDP) to better understand the stratigraphy, structure, hydrothermal alteration, and subsurface architecture of the Valles caldera. Several authors have reported results from these core holes, including Goff et al. (1986, 1987), Gardner et al. (1987, 1989), Hulen & Nielson (1985), Hulen et al. (1988, 1989), Musgrave et al. (1989), Rowley et al. (1987), Shevenell et al. (1988), and Starquist (1988).
A series of geophysical logs were collected from the VC-1 core hole. Surveys were conducted over the course of two logging sessions, and included gamma ray, caliper, density, single-point resistivity, self-potential, temperature, and thermal neutron logs. Because of unstable hole conditions, logging of the deeper sections of the hole had to be done below the suspended pipe in intervals. Data were obtained as the logging tool was drawn out of the hole. The qualitative value of the self potential log is good however the quantitative value of the log is unknown because no calibrations were recorded before/after logging and no repeat sections were recorded.
