Summary

Vermont law requires a permit, or a dam order, for the construction, alteration, or removal of dams impounding more than 500,000 cubic feet of water, including any accumulated sediments. Dam applications are reviewed for public safety and environmental impacts. Applicants should contact the Department of Environmental Conservation early in the planning process for assistance with additional permits required for a project.
