The public policy of South Dakota is to encourage the constructive uses of radiation, the proper development of uranium resources, and the control of any associated harmful effects. The disposal of radioactive wastes within the boundaries of the state requires prior approval from either the Governor or the South Dakota Legislature. The Department is authorized to adopt other rules and regulations pertaining to radiation control.
