New York Hydropower Construction & Transportation Permits(6-NY)

In New York, a hydropower developer may need to consider three different stormwater permits from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System General Permit for Stormwater Discharges from Construction Activity and the Multi-Sector General Permit for Stormwater Discharges Associated with Industrial Activities permits address stormwater runoff from construction related undertakings. For stormwater discharge in metropolitan areas, the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4s) addresses diversion methods. Stormwater Management Plans typically accompany these permit applications to comply with the federally regulated “Stormwater Phase II” mandate. The developer may also need to obtain a Divisible Load Overweight Permit or a Special Hauling Permit from the New York State Department of Transportation to transport oversized or divisible loads. This includes all natural materials and construction equipment.
