Md. Property Tax Article § 9-203 allows local governments to offer property tax credits for energy conservation devices if they choose to do so. This credit applies to geothermal and solar PV and thermal systems on residential structures only. The credit is equal to 50% of the cost of the system, up to $5,000 for heating and cooling systems and $1,500 for water heating systems. The amount of the tax credit cannot exceed the taxes imposed on the property during a fiscal year. Maximum credits issued by the country during a fiscal year cannot exceed $250,000.
