Summary

Palo Alto subdivision regulations require that all major subdivisions provide, to the extent feasible, for future passive or natural heating or cooling. The regulation also typically requires a tentative map with a list of which parcels have good potential for passive solar design residences.

Please also reference Guideline #6 on the Palo Alto Single Family Individual Review Guidelines. The Single Family Individual Review Guidelines address second-story issues specifically related to the relationship to adjacent properties and neighborhood patterns and do not apply to single story houses of first story additions.
