Jump to: navigation, search

PJM Interconnection, LLC, located in Norristown, Pennsylvania, will receive $12.6 million in funding to develop a smarter energy grid. The U.S. Department of Energy selected PJM Interconnection, LLC as one of 100 companies to receive federal stimulus funds as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.[2]

PJM Interconnection (PJM) and 12 of its member transmission owners are deploying synchrophasor measurement devices in 81 of its high-voltage substations and are implementing a robust data collection network. This project complements existing equipment to provide the necessary information technology infrastructure and wide-area monitoring and coverage of the PJM system to support further development of more advanced applications. The project is aimed at improving electric system reliability and restoration procedures, and preventing the spread of local outages to neighboring regions.[3]
