Dear XXX

I'd like to cordially invite you to the REEEP/NREL-organised workshop on "Linked Open Data – learn how to make open data work for your organization" to be held on 12th November 2012 in Washington DC (for more details see: http://en.openei.org/wiki/Open_Data_Workshop_2012).

This workshop will demonstrate the importance of linking open data and its ability to reduce replication, maximize interconnection, foster innovation, and generate new models of sustainability by

  • bringing together ~30 of the leading providers and users of clean energy, energy efficiency and climate data
  • introducing participants to the basics and concepts behind Linked Open Data
  • highlighting successful initiatives and existing collaborations (Open Government Data Portals, reegle, OpenEI, …)
  • discussing common concerns, legal issues and licensing questions
  • providing insights in “how to do it” for organisations who want to open their data.

REEEP’s clean energy portal and the energy platform are already at the forefront of the Linked Open Data movement, and we believe that the flexible sharing and re-use of information will greatly reinforce the fight against climate change and efforts to promote clean energy. In staging this workshop, we are fortunate to have the support of BMU (German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety) and NREL, all of whom share this strong conviction.

The workshop is provided free of charge and I hope I have the pleasure of welcoming you to this event.

Please let me know if you are planning to attend the workshop and I will reserve one of the limited places for you.

On the following day (Tuesday, November 13th) Worldbank in cooperation with CDKN will host a workshop on “How can we share climate knowledge more effectively? Exploring the role of Climate Knowledge Brokers and Tools Platforms”. If you are interested in getting more information about this workshop too, please let me know.

Best regards, Florian
