The Oak Ridge National Laboratory is a science and technology laboratory conducting research and development to create scientific knowledge and technological solutions focused on increasing the availability of clean energy; restoring and protecting the environment; and contributing to national security." History

Oak Ridge National Laboratory was originally founded in 1943 as the Clinton Laboratories and was created to pilot the production and separation of plutonium for the World War II Manhattan Project.[1]
