Exploration Activity: Modeling-Computer Simulations At Kilauea East Rift Geothermal Area (Rudman & Epp, 1983)

Exploration Activity Details
Location Kilauea East Rift Geothermal Area
Exploration Technique Modeling-Computer Simulations
Activity Date 1983 - 1983

Usefulness useful
DOE-funding Unknown

Exploration Basis
Computer simulations were made to help better understand the heat flow patterns in the East Rift Zone

Notes
Three models were made from data collected in the exploratory well HGP-A. The models simulated constant heat sources from a vertical dike, a magma chamber, and a transient heat source from a vertical tapered dike. The results showed the importance of water convection for distributing heat in the East Rift Zone.
