Exploration Activity: Micro-Earthquake At Dixie Valley Geothermal Area (Katz & J., 1984)

Exploration Activity Details
Location Dixie Valley Geothermal Area
Exploration Technique Micro-Earthquake
Activity Date 1977 - 1977

Usefulness useful
DOE-funding Unknown

Exploration Basis
Microseismic techniques were relatively new at the time of this study and being experimented with to help locate naturally fractured reservoirs.

Notes
Microseismic activity was measured using a six element array with a diameter of between 2000 and 3000 feet. The array was moved to different locations within the study area every other day. The survey of the Dixie Valley geothermal area covered an area of about 6 X 6 miles. This survey was done by Sunedco prior to the drilling of initial test wells.
