Summary

The policy of the state is to provide for the constructive use of radiation and control radiation emissions. This legislation authorizes the Department of the Environment to develop comprehensive programs and policies to manage radiation risks, review radiation source plans and applications, and conduct inspections to determine radiation hazards. Local regulations enacted by a county, municipality, or a board of health are permitted as long as they are consistent with state law and regulations. A Radiation Control Advisory Board is established within the Department to aid the Department's efforts under this legislation. This legislation contains additional information on the regulation of radiation sources, low-level radioactive waste disposal, and enforcement.
