The Mandatory Shoreline Zoning Act functions as a directive for municipalities, who are required to adopt, administer, and enforce local ordinances that regulate land use activities in the shoreland zone. The shoreland zone is comprised of all land areas within 250 feet, horizontal distance, of water resources such as rivers, lakes, ponds, wetlands, and streams. The main website for the Act contains links to the local ordinances.
