Maldives-Supporting the Zero Emissions Strategy
The Maldives are less the 2.5 m above sea level. Hence, the danger from climate change is crucial. At the same time the Maldives’ economy, particularly the tourism sector emits considerable amounts of GHG. The government follows a two-fold strategy: Safeguarding survival on as many islands as possible, plus reducing GHG emissions to zero until 2020. To this end the project will contribute by influencing public institutions, the energy and tourism sector, and other stakeholders to implement the zero emissions strategy of the Maldives. This strategy will represent a model for the tourism sector worldwide.
