TRL 7/8: Open Water System Testing & Demonstration & Operation
Technology Description The Evopod E1 is a 1 10th scale 1kW tidal turbine prototype that is being operated by Oceanflow Energy in Strangford Lough Northern Ireland The projects main aims are to show proof of the technical solutions inherant in the technology take record of it s operational reliability and monitor the environmental impact of the unique device The project has received backing through the award of two UK R D grant awards and academic studies have been carried out in collaboration with several Universities The project has won several awards

Mooring Configuration Fixed spread mooring with patented power export buoy Strangford Lough mooring solution are four clump weight anchors
Optimum Marine/Riverline Conditions The device is being tested in flow speeds that peak at around 1 8 m s

Device Testing
Scale Test •This version of Evopod has undergone rigorous tank testing at 1 40th scale at Newcastle University
Lab Test •Sensory equipment was callibrated by the manufacturer Mooring lines and power export cable were load tested The inboard system assembled by Oceanflow Energy was tested in house before installation
Full-Scale Test •This is a 1 10th scale device in testing The conditions the device is installed in are real sea conditions that can be very dangerous however the difference between this system and a full scale system is that this device is installed in 1 10th of the expected flow speed of a full scale device Therefore observations of this devices operation are useful regards providing a real world simulation of how a full scale device would have to operate
