Project Phase Phase 1

Project Details Amity Point, the northern most settlement on North Stradbroke Island, Australia, has been under investigation by Tidal Energy researchers for several years. Although the flow velocities have never been measured, local residents have reported flows of up to 4m/s. Amity Point is suitable for DHV Turbine technology due to fast current flows close to shore; already a grid connected area so power can be fed directly into the grid; the depth of the channel would allow reasonably large turbines to be installed; and desalination could also be co-located. The Griffith University Gold Coast Campus Centre for Coastal Management will investigate the flows late in 2008 for suitability for a DHV Turbine.
