This act establishes a low-level radioactive waste disposal regional facility siting fund that requires nuclear power reactor constructors and operators to pay to the Department of Environmental Resources funds to be utilized for disposal facilities. This act ensures that nuclear facilities and the Department comply with the Low-Level Radioactive Disposal Act.
The regional facility siting fund is used for reimbursement of expenses incurred by the regional facility operator for regional facility site selection, regional facility design and land purchase activities, but not to include any profit; or for fees paid by the department to consultants for the purpose of assisting the department in the implementation of the Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Act.
