Summary

The Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act proscribes the management, protection, preservation and use of the waters of the lakes and rivers of Ontario and the land under them. The Act also details regulations for the protection of persons and property by ensuring that dams are suitably located, constructed, operated and maintained and are of an appropriate nature. The Act charges the Ministry of Natural Resources with the governance of the regulations set forth in the law. The law also provides power to the Minister to make regulations governing the design, construction, operation, maintenance and safety of dams in any lake or river. All dams must be approved by the Ministry,
