LEDS Benefits

Low Emissions Development Strategies (LEDS) are smart development. LEDS contribute both to global GHG emissions reductions—supporting long-term climate change mitigation AND to broader national development goals and priorities—providing nearer-term economic, social, and environmental benefits. This page provides resources to help LEDS Global Partnership members make the case for low emission development. Well-designed LEDS help countries:

  • Grow secure, sustainable and prosperous futures for their citizens
  • Anticipate and respond to climate change and reduce vulnerability
  • Participate in the new global low carbon economy, through improved competitiveness and green technology adoption
  • Preserve natural resources through sustainable forest and agriculture management practices
  • Strengthen energy access and security through energy efficiency and clean energy technology deployment
  • Access global climate change assistance funding and catalyze private sector investment

LEDS Benefits Resources—Factsheets, Briefs, Presentations, Videos, Blogs, Tools

Many organizations have documented the benefits of low emission development. Some of these resources—including compelling case studies and success stories—on the connections between climate change mitigation and national development priorities--are compiled here.
