Exploration Activity: Isotopic Analysis-Fluid At Long Valley Caldera Geothermal Area (1977)

Exploration Activity Details
Location Long Valley Caldera Geothermal Area
Exploration Technique Isotopic Analysis- Fluid
Activity Date 1977

Usefulness not indicated
DOE-funding Unknown

Exploration Basis
Estimate deep reservoir temperature

Notes
The oxygen isotope compositions of dissolved sulfate and water from hot springs and shallow drillholes have been tested. Methods are described to calculate the effects of boiling and dilution. The geothermometer, is applied to thermal systems of Yellowstone Park, Wyoming, Long Valley, California, and Raft River, Idaho to estimate deep reservoir temperatures of 360, 240, and 1420C, respectively.
