Exploration Activity: Ground Gravity Survey At Blue Mountain Geothermal Area (U.S. Geological Survey, 2012)

Exploration Activity Details
Location Blue Mountain Geothermal Area
Exploration Technique Ground Gravity Survey
Activity Date 2008 - 2009

Usefulness useful regional reconnaissance
DOE-funding Unknown

Exploration Basis
The USGS collected geophysical data near Blue Mountain and Pumpernickel Valley near Winnemucca to study regional crustal structures to help understand the geologic framework of Blue Mountain and help in mineral and geothermal reconnaissance.

Notes
Over 660 gravity stations were used in this survey. The LaCoste and Romberg G614 and Scintrex CG-5 gravity meters were used. The new gravity data were combined with preexisting gravity data from surveys done for mineral exploration in the 1990's.
