The act provides that all facilities or sites for the concentration, storage or burial of radioactive waste must be constructed and operate pursuant to a permit issued by the Director of the Environmental Protection Division (EPD). The director may specify in the permit the conditions under which site or facility shall be operated. The permittee shall post a surety bond payable to the state and shall have and maintain financial protection to cover possible public liability in amounts to be determined by the Director. Applicants must provide information on the following: Administrative, Technical, And Environmental. Permits to construct and operate will be issued separately, and shall not last for more than 180 days and a year respectively. The permittee is fully responsible for the site until satisfactory termination of all activities is approved by the Director.
