Abstract
In 1988, seven cores were recovered from wells in the Cerro Prieto Geothermal Field. This article provides a geological description and interpretation of the cores. Injection well cores are composed of sand, sandstone, shale and sandstone with clay and silt. Interstitial clay and silt modify the permeability of sedimentary units. Production well lithology is a gray shale and sandstone intercalation with hydrothermal alteration. The mineralogy of Well 138 verifies the extension of the Cero Prieto I exploi~tionzo ne (CPI). Both the oblique slip fault defined in Well 1-9 and the listric structure of Well 138 are the first physical evidence of these types of structures in Cerro Prieto, and provide valuable information for the geological model of the field.
