Fumaroles:
An opening in the earth’s crust, typically near a volcano, in which steam and hot sulfurous gasses are discharged.

A fumarole is evidence of geothermal activity as it’s an opening in the Earth’s crust which emits steam and gases such as carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen chloride, or hydrogen sulfide. If the vent emits sulfur rich gas it may be referred to as a solfatara.
