The purpose of the Long Term Monitoring Protocol (the “Protocol”) is to specify the data collection objective, data collection location, data collection procedure, data validation, and data formatting for continuously operated distributed generation (DG) sites. This includes DG units that are continuously available for backup power. The Protocol is intended to provide data on the electrical, thermal (if applicable), operational and environmental (optional) performance of DG systems. Application of the Protocol will provide uniform data of known quality, which is obtained in a consistent manner for all DG systems under long term monitoring. Subscribing to the Protocol will allow for performance comparisons of different DG systems facilitating purchase and application decisions.
DG/CHP units that are tested with this protocol can be compared with other units tested in the same manner. Users of the long term monitoring protocol or other protocols are encouraged to share results on the national database at www.dgdata.org.
