Headline/Name: Dry steam electric field Caption/Description: The Geysers in northern California is the world's largest producer of geothermal power. The dry-steam field has successfully produced power since the early 1960s when Pacific Gas & Electric installed the first 11-megawatt plant. The power plant uses NREL's condenser technology to increase operating efficiency. Today, nearly 2000 megawatts are on line - enough energy to supply the electricity needs of San Francisco and Oakland. DOE-funded studies at The Geysers are helping to boost power production and decrease the rate of pressure decline.
