The purpose of the Case Study Protocol (the “Protocol”) is to specify the case study field procedures, the data collection procedures, and the data presentation procedures in preparing case studies for distributed generation (DG) sites. The Protocol is intended to provide data on the electrical, thermal (if applicable), operational and environmental (optional) performance of DG systems. Application of the Protocol will provide uniform data of known quality, that is obtained in a consistent manner for all DG systems under long term monitoring. Subscribing to the Protocol will allow for performance comparisons of different DG systems facilitating purchase and application decisions.

DG/CHP units that are reported with this protocol can be compared with other units tested and reported in the same manner. Users of the Case Study Protocol or the other protocols are encouraged to share results on the national database at www.dgdata.org.
