Exploration Activity: Field Mapping At Neal Hot Springs Geothermal Area (Colwell, Et Al., 2012)

Exploration Activity Details
Location Neal Hot Springs Geothermal Area
Exploration Technique Field Mapping
Activity Date 2011 - 2011

Usefulness useful
DOE-funding Unknown

Exploration Basis
field mapping was conducted to gain a better understanding of the geology and structure of Neal Hot Springs and the surrounding areas. This study was conducted by a geophysics field camp from the Colorado School of Mines.

Notes
Geologic field mapping was done in the area surrounding Neal Hot Springs and compared to large scale geologic mapping done in 1994. A revised geologic interpretation was made which calls the area a horst and graben complex with units in stratigraphic succession. The study claims to have significant implications for geophysical techniques and the structure controlling hot springs in the area.
