"The aim of the project is to help realise the substantial mitigation potential of agriculture, especially that of smallholders in developing countries. If the right changes are implemented in production systems, emissions can be reduced and sinks created in biomass and soils while increasing resilience and productivity. The project will contribute to ongoing research and implementation work of such changes through generation of better data on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and mitigation potential, as well as various pilot projects which will test agricultural practices and their climate change mitigation contribution in five countries. Full use will be made of ongoing FAO efforts on the UN-REDD programme and the forestry sector in general, as well as building on the long term work by FAO in this area."
