Mission Statement

"The Department of the Interior protects and manages the Nation's natural resources and cultural heritage; provides scientific and other information about those resources; and honors its trust responsibilities or special commitments to American Indians, Alaska Natives, and affiliated island communities."

Departments

The U.S. Department of the Interior houses and oversees the following departments:

  • Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA)
  • Bureau of Indian Education (BIE)
  • Bureau of Land Management (BLM)
  • Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM)
  • Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE)
  • National Park Service (NPS)
  • Office of Surface Mining, Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE)
  • U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFS)
  • U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)
