Summary

The Water Resources Center of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources is responsible for implementing regulations pertaining to dam and reservoir safety. Any person or corporation may erect a dam across any watercourse, provided that: (a) the entity is chartered to construct, operate and maintain mills, electric power and light works, or other machinery; (b) the watercourse is not a navigable stream; and (c) the entity is the proprietor of the land on which the dam is to be erected or is the owner of the land on one side of the stream where the dam is to be erected. This legislation contains additional procedures which must be followed to lawfully erect a dam.
