Exploration Basis
The study reports new geothermal data from the VC-2A and VC-2B core holes with estimates of the conductive heat flow of their upper intervals dominated by conductive cooling, and integrates these data with existing geothermal data to evaluate the thermal regime of the Valles caldera system.
 
Notes
Core samples were waxed upon retrieval to reduce drying and atmospheric alteration, and thermal conductivities were measured at a mean temperature of 25°C with a line source in either the needle-probe or half-space configuration. Rock thermal conductivities were adjusted to their in situ temperatures using temperature coefficients of thermal conductivity from Birch & Clark (1940). Conductivity data were also adjusted for in situ porosity determined from the well-log data.
