Exploration Activity: Core Analysis At Kilauea East Rift Geothermal Area (Quane, Et Al., 2003)

Exploration Activity Details
Location Kilauea East Rift Geothermal Area
Exploration Technique Core Analysis
Activity Date 1989 - 2000

Usefulness useful
DOE-funding Unknown

Exploration Basis
The purpose of this study was to analyze deep core sample from the Scientific observation holes and piece together a volcanic history of Kilauea

Notes
The core analysis from the scientific observation holes determined the lithologies, ages, geochemical characteristics, and accumulation rates lavas from Kilauea's East Rift Zone. The core analysis revealed that the average rate of lava expelled from the volcano has been remarkably constant for the last 350,000 years.
