Aside from two core fragments from Thermal well No. 7 and one each from Lakoma Fame wells Nos. 8 and 9, all rock and mineral samples were available as cuttings. Cuttings samples were taken during drilling typically at 12-m intervals by the Union Oil Company of California (now UNOCAL), each sample covering a 6-m depth interval. The grains in cuttings fractions were millimeter- to centimetersized.
