Contribution of energy services to the Millennium Development Goals and to poverty alleviation in Latin America and the Caribbean

This document describes the results of the joint effort of the ECLAC, UNDP and the Club of Madrid, which highlights the crucial role of access to energy services in the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals.



 



The joint initiative of the ECLAC, UNDP and the Club of Madrid seeks to reaffirm the importance of providing access to energy services, as an essential element in poverty reduction and improvement of the socio-economic and environmental conditions of the most vulnerable groups in Latin America and the Caribbean. The aim is also to give political, decision-makers the necessary elements to formulate policies that promote effective and efficient access to energy by those groups and thus contribute to the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals in the region.
